Spring lock wire, also called wiggle wire, is a great option to attach your greenhouse covering to your greenhouse. In order to keep the greenhouse at a temperature that works for whatever you might be growing, it’s imperative that the temperature stays warm and regular. That can’t happen with a greenhouse covering that’s constantly being compromised.
That’s where spring lock wire comes in.
Installation
Wiggle wire is what connects the two pieces of greenhouse covering - usually polyethylene plastic - to the greenhouse sides. Allowing air to be pumped between the two sheets of plastic creates a cushion of air that acts as a barrier, something that regulates the temperature between the inside and the outside of the greenhouse.
Screw the spring lock channel into the baseboards along the bottom of the greenhouse, then screw it over the end walls. It goes down tight over the framework of the greenhouse and along the baseboards along the sides, a very simple fit. After you’ve got it in place, drape the plastic over it on the outside, and on the inside is the wiggle wire. It clips in and it holds the plastic extremely tightly. So tight, it’s almost airtight.
Once the layers of plastic start to get inflated, the wiggle wire will hold all of the air between the two layers of plastic and help them to inflate.
Why Use Wiggle Wire?
There are plenty of reasons as to why using spring lock wire, or wiggle wire, is the best choice for your greenhouse.
First of all, wiggle wire provides temperature consistency for your greenhouse, which is essential in getting your plants to grow. No matter what you’re growing, it needs an area with a stable temperature in order to thrive, and wiggle wire can make sure greenhouses have just that.
Many people think that wiggle wire is a fragile, breakable material that isn’t worth the investment - but those people are incorrect. While installing wiggle wire takes some time and a certain degree of investment, the payoff is worth it.
Another rumor is that wiggle wire can’t hold its own against the elements - but that’s just not true. Not only is wiggle wire less expensive and easier to use than lock channels, it’s also hardier than them too.
The fact of the matter is that lock channels just don’t work like wiggle wire and wiggle wire channels do. It’s as simple as that. Wiggle wire can withstand wind, rain, snow, and other types of weather with no problems - for being less expensive, it’s incredibly durable. More expensive is not always better. Wiggle wire works great on a budget.
Why Choose Farm Plastic Supply?
At Farm Plastic Supply, we pride ourselves in providing only the best products for our customers. We understand that you make your livelihood through what you grow, and we want to support your business just as you support ours.
You should choose wiggle wire from Farm Plastic Supply because we use stainless steel in order to make the wire strong and durable. When it’s made with stainless steel, it lasts through pretty much anything and will serve your greenhouse for years to come. Our competitors make their wiggle wire with either aluminum or galvanized steel, two options that can’t withstand the same harsh treatment that stainless steel is able to.
Wiggle or No Wiggle?
At this point, you understand that we’re big proponents of using wiggle wire - but maybe you’re still not sold. We’re here to tell you that using wiggle wire will always be better than not using it, and here’s why:
It attaches across the full area of the plastic instead of by a point-by-point attachment, creating a more thorough covering that’s less likely to become compromised
This stronger attachment keeps air and wind from getting under the plastic and causing it to fail, and your plants to die.
It’s great for double installation.
It creates an excellent barrier for inflated double sheet installations.
